Darkness not penetrated, your mask secure
Veiled from truth and fragility
With confidence high, standing tall
Feeling so strong, as you hide
The mask comes off, in solitude
Your castle is safe, none can get through
Don’t look in the mirror, all revealed
Even inside, you must hide
Glance for a moment, what will be seen?
Too terrible, real, who is there?
So weak I see, not recognised
Go now, run, please hide
Why are you here, in my mind?
I do not know you, go
Is that me? Don’t let it be
I will slip back behind, it is better to hide

Greetings! You know the thing with poetry like this is I feel I've got to come back and read it again later to see what my mind makes of it a second and/or a third time. I suppose that's the beauty of it, isn't it?

"Veiled from truth and fragility"
ReplyDeleteLove this line, it's both distant and protective of the mask's captive. I do like this very much. Thanks for the post.
Apryl, you caught exactly what I was trying to say. The mask protects them from their true self, but they can pretend there is no mask there.
ReplyDeleteJimmy, all my poetry is for all to see. And I hope that each time you read it you see just a little more. Thanks for taking the time
ReplyDeleteThis captures how I have felt in times past.. I think we all have a time we feel like hiding..when the truth is to fragile.
